Glencoe English/Composition/Finding a Subject p.14////E8N1/ ***** Before you write, you must find a subject. Your subject may

be something you already know a good deal about or something you

would like to learn more about. As you work through the

assignments in this book, you will be given a subject, or you

will choose your own. There are many good ways of finding

subjects for writing. ne way of finding a subject is brainstorming. When you

brainstorm, you try to think of as many ideas as you can as

quickly as you can. You do not judge how good the ideas are.

You concentrate on thinking of ideas. You wait until later to

judge your ideas. You can brainstorm with a group. Everyone in

the group tries to think of as many ideas as possible. One

person writes all the ideas down. You can brainstorm by

yourself, noting down ideas as quickly as they come. You start

brainstorming by thinking of one general subject. Let your mind

go from that to as many other subjects for writing as possible. Kim started to brainstorm by thinking of sailboats. Below,

read the ideas he jotted down.2. Name four or more possible subjects for writing suggested by

the subject you chose.
