ť"WORKING WITH THE MODEL•ś
Read the speeches below. Think about the audiences shown inthe pictures.
1. Okay©in our meets this year, we're going to try to improve our standing in the two power strokes, the breast and the butterfly. In the butterfly, you leap out of the water to gain distance. It's great to watch, tough to learn. The breast stroke's easier. It's done entirely in the water. You gain distance by sweeping out to the side with your arms and legs. (It's your basic frog movement.) I'll expect each of you to pick one of these strokes and put in some extra laps each day. By the end of the month, I want to see some real progress.
2. Now we're all going to have lots of fun learning how to swim. You just have to remember three simple rules. One©don't run
around the pool. You could fall and hurt yourself. Two©stay where the water's not deep. You should always be able to touch bottom with your feet. Three©always stay close to your buddy, in case you need help. Quickly everyone, show me your
buddy. Very good! I think we're ready to go in.
3. Really, all of you should consider swimming regularly. According to most doctors, swimming's the perfect form of exercise. It aids the cardio©vascular system. It strengthens the muscles©all of them, not just a few.
