McGraw©Hill/Focus/David and Goliath p. 142////R7N8/ ***** When Saul was king over Israel, the Philistines called
together their armies for war against the Israelites. King Saul
and the men of Israel drew up in battle line facing the
Philistines. And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the
other side, and their was a valley between them. Then there came out a champion from the camp of the
Philistines named Goliath of Gath. He was six cubits and a span
high. He had a helmet of brass on his head, and he was armed
with a coat of mail that weighed five thousand shekels of brass.
He had covers of brass upon his legs and a shield of brass
between his shoulders. The staff of his spear was as big as a
beam and the spears head weighed six hundred shekels of iron. A
shield bearer walked before the champion. Goliath shouted across the valley to the armies of Israel
and said to them, "Why have you come out in battle array? Am not
I a Philistine and you are the servants of Saul? Choose a man
from among you and let him come down to meet me. If he can fight
me and kill me then will we be your servants, but if I overcome
him and kill him, then shall you be our servants and serve us."
And Goliath shouted again, "I defy the armies of Israel this day.
Send me a man from among you that we may fight together."
