     My saddest day I ever had is Note #1 when My dog got hit

{by a car.}It happened when I was playing ball (DO). It was

{at night} when Fracles got hit. Fracles broke lose, and ran

down to go {to the apple trees.} And he got hit when he was 

crossing the road (DO). And whoevery hit Fracles (DO) did

not stop. Note #2 And then a man saw him (DO) laying Note #3

{by the road.} He saw my ("me" DO) playing ball and yelled

up {to my}and said Note #1 is this your dog (PN). And I ran

{down the driveway} and I said Yes (DO). And I told dad (IO)

And I was crying

     I feel good (PA) today. But my arms don't feel too well

You see I fell {out of the tree} last night. My foot sliped and I

fellIt didn't feel very good (PA). But I didn't cry. But when 

I had the car wrick (DO) I didn't cry ether

     I feel good (PA) today. But my eye hurts. I can't see very

well. I was {at the brandi's} and my eye was getting pinked

And {in the morning} when I woke up it got stuck. I had to 

pull it open. 

     My best friend is Stephany (PN). I don't [k]now why

(DO) but I just like to play {with her.} Will see I liked [her 

(DO)] every {sinse third grade.} I just think she is fun (PA) to 

play with. Like I said before

     The goodest day I every had was when I came {to 

Xxxxxxxx Xxxxxxx} I like this school (DO) very much. It is a

good school (PN). I like my teacher (DO) the best she is very

nice (PA) and pretty (PA) and slim (PA) very pretty and 

SLIM! Note #4
 

Notes

1. Don't expect students to be able to identify clauses as complements. That will come in Level Three.

2. The subject of "did stop" will cause confusion. Simply don't expect students to be able to explain it. Tell them that the subject is a clause "Whoever hit Frackles," and that they will be studying clauses at the next level. 

3. The "lie"/"lay" distinction is one that many of my college Freshmen still have trouble with. KISS, of course, is primarily concerned with syntax, not usage, so it would be up to individual teachers and school systems to decide when to attempt to deal with this problem.

4. I am saving the repeated "pretty and SLIM" to be counted as appostives, but fifth graders would probably accept them as repeated predicate adjectives.
