Analysis of Fragments, Comma-Splices and Run-ons

Frag #18 -- Length: It is a fragment because the writer left out an initial "against" -- "*Against* one team [LAJFthey played,] he played a good game [RAVFbecause he was catching most of the passes [RAJFthat the quarterback threw to him.]]" As it was, it is the longest "main clause" in the passage, 23 words, which is almost three times the writer's 8.2 word average. Note also that it contains three perfectly correct subordinate clauses.

CS #39 -- Amplification: His hitting a lot of home runs can be seen as a detail related to his batting average: "He has got a great batting average  -- he is hitting a lot of homeruns."
CS #40 -- Subordination: "They have won the district, because the whole team has been hitting good."
CS #41 -- Contrast: "He's got great experience; I think he's got personality also."
CS #42 -- Amplification (or Subordination): The second clause could be an amplification of the first, or it could state the cause of the first:, or it courld be the result of the first: "He gets anything he wants -- he is real spoiled." or "He gets anything he wants because he is real spoiled." or "Because gets anything he wants, he is real spoiled." The choices being so numerous, the writer may have opted for the splice.
