As the discussion of Hunt's Aluminum study
explained, it was fundamentally successful, even though it suffered from
a few major flaws. The primary objectives of this study were to:
1. parallel Hunt's study, but make the data available for review.
2. use KISS terminology instead of transformational, thereby testing
KISS terminology for its adequacy for the job and simultaneously making
the results of this study (and theirs) more comprehensible both to English
teachers and to the general public.
3. verify, to the extent possible, Hunt's conclusions about natural
syntactic development.
4. extend Hunt's conclusions by supplementing his primarily statistical
analysis with a psycholinguistic explanation for natural syntactic development.
5. extend Hunt's conclusions by exploring what additional questions
and research might prove useful.
