1. I have analyzed this as an ellipsed "about" with the two clauses as objects of the ellipsed preposition. They may, however, simply be adjectival clauses modifying "clue." At the time of doing the original analysis, the choice was a toss-up. Now, having seen the abundance of right-branching adjectival clauses in other versions, I'm inclined to the latter explanation.
