An abundant metal, aluminum,
has many uses. It comes from an ore that is clay like, called bauxite.
Bauxite contains aluminum among several other substances. Workmen extract
these other substances from the bauxite. To do so, they grind the substance
and put it in pressurized tanks. The other substances form a mass, which
is removed. They filter it, then a liquid remains. They put it through
several other processes and it finally yields a chemical. It is a white
powdery chemical, called alumina. It is a mixture which contains aluminum
and oxygen. They separate the oxygen from the aluminum with electricity.
They finally produce a metal that is light and has a luster. The luster
is bright and silvery. The metal comes in many forms. |
