Aluminum is an abundant metal
with many uses. Aluminum comes from a clay like ore known as Bauxite. Bauxite
also contains several other substances, not only aluminum. Workmen extract
the other substances from the bauxite, then grind the bauxite. They put
the bauxite in pressurized tanks to form a mass. They remove the mass and
the liquid is filtered, and sent through several other processes. This
yields a white, powdery, chemical, which is known as alumina. Alumina is
a mixture containing aluminum and oxygen. Workers use electricity to seperate
the aluminum from the oxygen to produce aluminum. The finished aluminum
has a bright, silvery, luster, and is light in weight. The aluminum comes
in many different forms which can be used just about anywhere. |
