Aluminum is an abundant (2) metal (1) which has many uses (3). I comes from Bauxite (4) ore (5), which looks like clay (6) but contains aluminum (7) and several (8) other substances (9). Workmen extract these othe substances from the bauxite (10) by grinding (11) it and puttNote # 1 (12) it into high pressure (13) tanks. The other substances form a mass (14) that is removed (15) with filters (16) leaving a liquid (17) to remain. The liquid is put through several other processes (18) with a final product (19) called alumina (22); alumina is a powdery (20), white (21) chemical mixture (23) of aluminum (24) and oxygen (25). The workmen use electricity (27) to separate the aluminum from the oxygen (26) to produce (28) a light (29), silvery (32)

1 The original included a crossout. The original apparently read "Workers extract these other substances from the bauxite, so it can be put into [overwritten], and putt it into high pressure tanks." This was revised to "Workmen extract these other substances from the bauxite, by grinding it and putt it into high pressure tanks." The writer apparently realized the inappropriateness of the "so" (adverbial clause of purpose), and revised to indicate means ("by"). In this process, apparently, "putt" was never completed to "putting."
