Aluminum is an abundant metal
which has many uses. Aluminum comes from bauxite, an ore that looks like
clay. Bauxite contains aluminum and many other substances that workmen
extract. The workmen grind the bauxite and put it in tanks with pressure
in them. The other substance form a mass that workmen remove by using
filters. The liquid that remains is put through several other processes
and finally yields a chemical. The chemical is a white, powdery mixture
called alumina. The workmen separate aluminum and oxygen, which are contained
in the chemical, by using electricity. They finally produce a light, lustery,
bright, and silvery metal that comes in many forms. |
