Aluminum is an abundant metal with many uses. It comes from an ore called bauxite which looks like clay and is made up of many different substances. Workmen extract the other substances by grinding the ore and placing it into pressurized tanks. This causes the unwanted material to form a mass which can be removed using filters leaving a liquid. Through several other process they are able to yield a powdery chemical called alumina containing aluminum and oxygen. It is then seperated from the oxygen using electricity creating a light, bright metal with a silvery luster. The end result is an extremely useful product that can be used to make beverage containers to aircraft.
