[Missing Introduction
& Thesis]
One of the biggest things that can affect
one's grades is background. Since you have had English for at least twelve
years, you have developed a writing style, and most likely stuck with it
for many years. This can help you or it could hurt you. You may have been
lucky and had a good English teacher who taught you how to brainstorm first,
then make an outline, followed by a rough draft. And if you're really lucky,
you had a teacher who would make you edit it a couple of times until it
was perfect. If you had a teacher like this when you were in school, then
you should have no problems in ENL 111 because you are used to what the
teacher will want you to do for him.
On the other hand, you may have had
a teacher who just made you write an essay once in a while, and never taught
you how to brainstorm and then do an outline so that you know how to make
your report look good. If this was your case, and you had a teacher like
this, you could be in some trouble because once you get into ENL 111, you
will be expected to do all your reports like this, and this could mean
big problems for you.
How your parents did in school can play
a big roll in how you do in school. If your parents did not do good in
school, it could mean one of two things. It could mean that since your
parents did bad then you will do bad as well because of genetics, but on
the other hand, if they did bad it could make them more strict on you so
that you do well in school because all parents want to see their kids do
better than they did. On the other hand, if they did bad they just may
not care at all if you do good or bad in school.
Another big thing that is sure to affect
your grade is attitude. If you are one of those students who are just here
because you have to be here and you only care if you pass no matter what
the grade is, then you most likely will not get higher than a D. If you
are one of those students who care about your grade, and want a high G.P.A.,
then most likely you will get a higher grade because you care and take
pride in your work. When you go back and see a high grade you know that
all that hard work was worth it.
