Aluminum is a very useful and
abundant metal. It is extracted from a claylike substance called bauxite.
Workmen extract aluminum and several other substances from bauxite by grinding
it and placing it into pressurized tanks. This produces a liquid containg
the aluminum. After several other processes a white, powdery chemical containing
alumina remains. Alumina is a mixture containing aluminum and oxygen. Workmen
use electricity to seperate the two elements. The light aluminum remaining
has a bright sivery luster that comes in many forms |
