Aluminum is an abundant metal
that has many uses. It comes from an ore called bauxite. This material
looks like clay, and contains many substances, including aluminum. Workmen
extract all other substances by grinding it, then place it in a pressurized
tank. The other substances form a mass. They then remove the mass, using
filters, and are left with a liquid. Other processes take place, until
it becomes a chemical. This powdery, white chemical is a mixture of aluminum
and oxygen, called alumina. Using electricity, workmen seperate the aluminum
from the oxygen, finally producing a metal. This is light-weight, and has
a bright, silvery luster. It comes in many forms, but any-way it comes
we call it aluminum. |
