 Finding Prepositional Phrases
Practice Exercise # 3

Directions: Place parentheses ( ) around every prepositional phrase.
 

The text is:
      A Sunday school class was studying the Ten Commandments. They were ready to discuss the last one. The teacher asked if anyone could tell her what it was. Susie raised her hand, stood tall, and quoted, "Thou shall not take the covers off the neighbor's wife.
Work your way through the text one sentence at a time. 

Sentence #1

Identify all the prepositional phrases.
      A Sunday school class was studying the Ten Commandments.
     There are none.

Sentence #2

Identify all the prepositional phrases.
      They were ready to discuss the last one.
       There are none.  ("Discuss" is a verb, so "to discuss" is not a prepositional phrase.)

Sentence #3

Identify all the prepositional phrases.
      The teacher asked if anyone could tell her what it was.
       There are none. 

Sentence #4

Identify all the prepositional phrases.
      Susie raised her hand, stood tall, and quoted, "Thou shall not take the covers (off the neighbor's wife.)
       That's it. We're done.
