Joke # 8: Answer Key for Level 1
Current technology makes it extremely difficult to draw lines, etc. from word to word in web documents. In Level One, I have therefore indicated words modified by prepositional phrases in following brackets. These brackets will be deleted in the answer keys to subsequent levels.

       Two pirates were reunited {after many years} [Adverb to

"were reunited"] {of terrorizing}[Note #1] [Adjective to "years"] the

high seas. The one pirate looked to be {in pretty bad shape}

[Adverb to "to be"] : he had a wooden leg, a hook {on his right

hand [Adjective to "hook" or Adverb to "had"], and a patch {on his

left eye [Adjective to "patch" or Adverb to "had"].

     "You look like you've been having a rough time. What

happened?" asked the first pirate.

     "Well," the pirate answered, "my leg got crushed when a

load {of cargo} [Adjective to "load"] shifted, and I had to get a

wooden leg. My hand got caught {in the chain} [Adverb to

"caught"] as the anchor was being dropped, and the day

after I got my hook, a fly landed {on my nose} [Adverb

to "landed"] ."
