       A home-economics teacher was trying[CNE] to 

encourage her  third-graders to try new foods. The 

teacher had a piece {of venison}, [Adjective to "piece" which

she cut up {into little squares}.] /   She placed the pieces {on 

spoons}and gave them {to each} {of the children}.

     [DO of  "said"Note #1 "Now, boys and girls, the game 

[Adjective to "game" we're going to play today] is to taste this 

new food, and to guess the name {of the animal} [Adjective to 

"animal"  {from which} this meat came,"]] the teacher 

said.  "I'll give you a hint  /Note # 2  -- it's a name

[Adjective to "name" thatNote #3 sometimes your mommy calls

your daddy [Adverbial to "calls" when he comes home {from

the office}."]] 

     There was a long pause. /  Finally a youngster {in the back}

exclaimed, [DO of "exclaimed" "Don't eat it!"]

Note:

1. An equally valid interpretation is to count this as the main clause and to consider "the teacher said" as an interjection.

2. In Level Five, we'll consider an alternative to viewing this as a main clause break.

3. This is a particularly good example of the double function of some subordinate conjunctions as pronouns within their clauses. If we "anti-reduce" this into a main clause, we get -- "Sometimes you mommy calls your daddy (IO) that (DO) when he comes home from the office." Note that what she calls him is "Dear," or in the boy's home, "skunk." She says "Dear" to him, so "daddy" is actually an indirect object.
