Notes

1. Don't expect students to be able to identify clauses as complements. That will come in Level Three.

2. In "He is about one year people years and 13 cat years," students at this level will not be able to deal with "year" as a Noun Used as an Adverb, but they will be able to explain the "and" and the "years" in terms of ellipsed prepositions -- "He is about one year {*in* people years} and 13 {*years in* cat years.}"

3. Although I would accept "likes to catch" as a finite verb at this level, students will also understand "to catch" as the direct object of "likes." They will not know that it is an infinitive, and I would only tell them if they asked.
